Founded in September 1959 by
John Fletcher "Rev" Birchette, Jr. (Pictured
at right) who died in 1987 and Bessie Hurt Birchette (Pictured at left) who died in 1994. "Rev" as he was called was an Asheville,
N. C. native, was pastor of St. John "A" Baptist Church, Asheville, NC, later Thankful Baptist Church, Johnson City for over
31 years. He formed a partership with W, C. Allen to establish Allen-Birchette Funeral Home, Ashevile, NC before moving to Johnson City. TN and later establishing Birchette
Mortuary in Johnson City, TN. He was a graduate of Stephen Lee High School, Asheville, N. C., Morehouse College,
Atlanta, Ga. and Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia, PA. He was a veteran serving in the U. S. Army.
Bessie was an Atlanta, GA. native, a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Atlanta, GA. and was a graduate of
East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN. She was a teacher in the Johnson City School System and later at Greene
Valley Development Center, Greenville, TN before retirement. Fletcher and Bessie had a son, J. Fletcher Birchette, III.

Monroe (Chum) Curtis, went home to be with the Lord on Friday.
February 9, 2007. He was born on March 6, 1908 in Gaffney, SC and lived in Johnson
City over 75 years. Mr. Curtis was a faithful member of Thankful Baptist Church
and a longtime member of the Birchette Mortuary staff.

John Fletcher Birchette, III (Licensed
Funeral Director-Licensed Insurance Agent) serves as president of Birchette Mortuary, Inc. since the death of his father.
He attended Langston High School, Morehouse College, and ETSU. He is a retired employee of the Dept. of Veterans Affairs as
a Vocational Rehab Specialist after a thirty-three year career. He has served on several boards, Senior Citizen
Advisory Board, Civil Service Board for City of Johnson City, Boy's Club Board, Widowed Persons Board and CORE.
He is a member of Thankful Baptist Church and the Pro-To Club. He is married to Sarah Ann Birchette and has a son, John Fletcher
Birchette, IV, Atlanta, GA.
The combination of growing up in the
family funeral businesss, thirty-three years of service at the V. A. Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN has enable Fletcher
to bring a distinct level of professionalism, customer service and compassion to serve families.
He has surrounded himself with
a professional staff with no equals.
